a question for you (11/8/24)

absence walked beside me today
it didn’t have too much to say
But then again, neither did I,
there’s a blind eye in the sky
and it keeps turning away
to see what it doesn’t
from miles and further away,
so many degrees of separation
how do they keep apart
fragments of dead-ends
and fits and starts
a missing beat of a heart,
a line of drawn
upon bare skin
denoting an essence of sin,
choose to believe
what to believe
changing your mind on a whim,
send in the clowns
what’s there to lose
what have you got to prove,
cold shades of blue
a question for you,
ready or not
how do you stop a pendulum?
and did you know
the sum of all parts
rarely add up to a whole,
haven’t you noticed
nothing is real any more
it’s time to stop keeping a score.
