distant worlds (3/3/24)

voices on the radio
other lives
sometimes in each other's orbits
sometimes spinning out in space,
a place to live
and probably a place to die
they feel so disconnected
so far away
and further every day
in this shrinking world
in which I stoop and wait
wondering what
it’s all been about;
distant worlds
each circling their distant voids
gathering and shedding
moulting every year
accumulated fears
making room
for new ones to take root,
they speak of this
they speak of that
they speak of things
that never last
because they move too fast
becoming past
before they can be present,
they talk of this
they talk of that
they talk of things
that can’t be grasped
waiting through the looking glass.
