root & branch (2/2/25)

afterwards
the world feels strange
distant
lost
irrelevant
hanging by a thread
when my time
comes
as time will ensure
that it does
will I evoke
such sympathies?
how does one
reconcile
how does one
summarise
the total sum
in a handful
of minutes,
snippets
bits and pieces
what has been
what’s left to come
what’s not
and what never will?
how we spill
from one state
to the next,
echoes
bound in ripples
dissipate eventually,
sit beneath a tree
roots and branches
cosseting
giving continuity
offering clarity
at such a

disconnected time,

forgotten
not forgotten
forgotten
not forgotten
forgotten
not.
