now they’re yours (17/1/25)
these are my words
I give them to you
now they’re your words
to give to
whoever you choose,
please don’t refuse them
and try not to lose them
keep them safely
between your lips
or your fingertips,
don’t let them become
just a slip of the tongue
until the time comes,
with these words
you’re done,
as they’ve been around
for centuries
handed down
word for word
since they first emerged
out of the mire
the proverbial soup
to eventually find me
the next in line,
see,
they have history,
and a tot or two
of mystery,
don’t lose them
neglect them
or lead them astray,
wear them well
as you might
a sacred spell
and when the time comes
pass them on
to one who deserves
to one who will grasp
their value and worth,
as these were my words
and now they’re yours,
a burden
or blessing,
you choose.
