light that’s left (2/3/25)
I’m upside down
don’t turn me over
I’m this way for a reason,
I’m inside out
hearing the world
collapsing in on itself,
intrepid sunrise
shuffling into
a grey mundanity,
surrendering self
to the slipshod of time,
hide ‘n’ seek
it’s been too many years
since I hid
or sought,
I’m left of right
and right of left
snagged in a switchback,
a sense of scale
regards me unseen
as smaller than sight
and larger than life,
this is how
the wheels go round
and round and round,
remember rhyme
and mountain thyme
a posthumous semblance
of afterlight,
an absence of sound
a moment profound
the why, the wherefor, the how,
I fell on deaf ears
with an effortless thump,
one day perhaps
I’ll grow into my skin
while my thoughts continue
defying the laws
of nature’s eloquent flaws,
Jack be nimble
Jack be quick
don’t blow out
that candlewick
it’s all the light
that’s left to find
the way to go
to get out of this shit-show.
