constantly the waters (17/11/24)
sunlight
dripping off the clouds,
time tickles the skin
of the present
teasing out slivers
of a future
overlaid,
trying not to overstay
its welcome,
weather shifts
its weight to stay in step
constantly testing
the waters
while all that moves
is carving grooves
ruts and moods
into every surface
every face,
lines inclined to trace
a wayward path
in slips of tongues
and sleights of hand,
no demands
just a level of attention
held in suspension,
there’s a lesson here
to be learned
a sense of place
to be earned,
moonlight
eking out the night
as far as the eye can see
is all the air
I’ve yet to breathe.
