crumb-collective, 12th November 2015

sometimes I'll put a collection of collected crumbs onto my bird table feeling pleased with myself for being so benevolent... though I'm sure they would've preferred the whole thing and not just the crumbs......
but what I've just eaten is merely a collection of crumbs anyway isn't it?...... it's simply in a shape we don't call a crumb.... but it is, a crumb-collective.......
are crumbs leftovers?........
are crumbs remains merely destined as discards for the bin?... or for the compost.......... and at what point does a constituents part of something crumby or crumbly become a crumb?
and why the silent 'b'?.... why shouldn't we pronounce it, after all why even waste the ink or keystroke writing/ typing it?
when something starts to crumble it's becoming something other than what it was..... between two states.... in flux..... moving from one definition to another..... to one usually associated with decay, loss, end, even of no consequence........
I lick my finger...... and dab-up each and every crumb.... this is the most effective way to eat them.... merely trying to pick them up by pinching fingers is a fools-errand and though can be done with the larger crumbs (though how large is a crumb before it's actually not a crumb and actually a portion of what you're or you've been eating?) it becomes a trial of sisyphus with the smaller ones..... hence, lick finger, dab, carry contents conveniently attached to your finger to your mouth...... eat......... voila!... clean plate!
cutlery has made us lazy with our fingers...... they are perfectly fine for eating food with, as long as it's not piping hot... or soup!...... though, on finishing a bowl of soup I also, mush to others chagrin, wipe the bowl with said finger to make sure I don't miss a drop........... voila!.... clean bowl!
