pencil snails, 4th October 2015

it's trendy at the moment to have a beard..... if you're a man that is...... unless of course you're jeremy corbyn (sorry, no capitals, I'm going through a phase.....)...... for some he needs no introduction but for those that do he's the new leader of the labour party here in the britain (still, no caps!)......... and has a beard.... and is over 50!...... shock, horror!..... you see it's fine to sport a beard now in your twenties but if you're him, who is not in his twenties, then you become a figure of ridicule..... funny old ageist society we live in...... ..... emails... texts...... instant messaging........... just doesn't have it...... that personal touch... no matter how much one might try they can never be as personal as a handwritten communication.... i.e. a letter......... or what's now disparagingly referred to as 'snail-mail'.......... it's just a fact........ no matter how much of your heart and even soul you might put into say an email, it simply remains impersonal........ it's nothing personal for me to sit here (typing!) to say it's nothing personal but they fail to make that almost kinetic and tangible connection handwriting can make.......... electronic communication can also make words merely throwaway items, fast food, a product of the throwaway mentality........ it's as though we don't deliberate over them quite as much as we do when using a pen... or pencil!......... lest we forget the humble pencil.... pencils rock!........... maybe it's something to do with the lead, being of this earth also, from the ground.... as the lead leads your thoughts through the dips and swirls from letter to word.......... anyway, I have things to do......... busy, busy, busy me must get buzzing like a bee........
