lake lament, 2/August/17

in the mountains there lay lurking lakes that tempt and tease, entreat with words that slither under hearing, entice with textures, light and dark, a play of faith and trust...... they move with bell-dancer motions beckoning and keeping close around itself.... inviting though it may be is it where you want to be, to feel its finger round your skin clasping ankles, knees and thighs, is it what you want to feel such temptations unrefined?....... feeding on reflections shallows offers gifts of warmth and soothing stones, wavelets slip around you with an innocence that conjures all your instincts to embrace, protect, insinuate yourself into its promise of forever...... to see and not to see beneath the deeper steps you take above your knees..... dive, dive, colder now, you know you can't go back... and don't........ all-consuming your reflection starts to waver, struggling to assert itself as darker hues avail themselves..... trust me......... around your hips to covet your waist until your feet have lost the ground, you're afloat, lake is lapping round your neck, down your back showing its devotion  still its words are there but not for any ears.......... it flips you on your back to where there's only sky that pulls away.... falling without falling balanced as you are held between two worlds both promising the earth and down below, underneath... a nowhere, not a where you know nor been, torn to want to know or not or just stay here as long as two opposing forces choose to hold you cradled on an edge against between the skin to neither sink nor fly......... kissed by ripples, clothed in sky, a disconnected landscape looking on, its voyeuristic glances hear the lurking lakes lament........
