who is me? 27th October 2016

it shouldn't come as a surprise, he UK Westminster government rides roughshod over Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland forbidding them a say in the whole 'brexit' debacle...... instead they get a pat on the head and a phone number for the laughingly entitled 'Brexit Minister's' office....... Westminster, the seat of power here which is conveniently in England have always treated the 'regions' as afterthoughts, even regional minister posts have been the lowest cabinet positions.... it shouldn't come as any surprise...... if anything will break up the UK then brexit will.... well?...... and what really therefore does it mean?... and no, "brexit" does not mean "brexit", that's merely lazy grammar.... for a government wanting the UK as a single entity it's taking an arrogantly divisive approach to it....... unsurprisingly it's all political.... as are national borders, mere artifice... invisible lines that one side you're called this and the other called that, all too often resulting in a blur of chauvinistic nationalism....... cultural identity, that's a different matter though just as tricky to apply.... where on a map does one 'culture' begin and end?........ all over the world peoples of different culture have been herded into one politically-motivated identity to reflecting something called 'nationhood'........ what's a nation?....... a car crash of imagination and propaganda imposed, or superimposed, onto a plethora of individual differences scrunched up like elastic bands inside a golf ball......... so why not be UK, or British anyway?....... except UK is a construct, maybe even the countries that make it too, even Gibraltar (who voted 98% to remain in Europe incidentally)...... considering most aren't concerned by anything beyond their own garden fence...... I don't feel part of anywhere, nor rooted in the traditional sense and having moved around a lot never bonded with land or a people, so perhaps my perspective is a little skewed.. phew! what an exhausting thing to blog about today........ mine, not mine, us, them, friend, foreign?...... a movable unappetising feast.... it's bad enough when a farmer tells you to get off his land when in fact it's probably yours anyway being your paying for it through taxes and subsidies..... I need more tea.... or whisky!
