etiquettastrophies, 23rd May 2016

it's everywhere... everywhere you go... everything you do.... as ubiquitous as air........ etiquette.... like it or loathe or even pretend you're not a slave to it it's there, in your face, up close and in your face (though politely just outside your personal space, of course)....... governing what to say when, when to say what, to who, or to whom......  in every activity, every conversation, every interaction, how we dress, even those most basic such as sex and food, every move, word, pause fine-tuned within an inch of its life.... most of it we seem to learn unconsciously, thankfully!.... can you imagine having to deliberately remember all those rules every second of every day for fear of falling foul to faux pas, embarrassment or ridicule....... it's a veritable minefield... and every situation carries a plethora of etiquettological baggage... or tightly wound spring about to unravel at any moment resulting in an almighty etiquettastrophy!...... there are times when one can't move for them so stifling are there grip on people fears for making an oops! and being outed as a etiquettophobe......... worse still are those new unfamiliar situations and your mind reels and somersaults, twists and twerks as the internal panic-button has been pressed and alerted all senses, reflexes and neurones to the hazards presented...... fight or flight!... or get into etiquette-line  before the sky falls in and you're left standing there swinging your...... well, whatever you'll be swinging......... we stand or fall by how well, or shockingly, we navigate this haze of smoke and mirrors....... good luck out there today, and be sure your shoes are on the right feet... actually, make sure at least one is on your left....
