made it!... last day of January... was touch and go for a while there
but here I am... here we are.... puts down my shovel and stops digging
holes looking for a way out.... Jackdaws once more line the church roof
line making ordered silhouettes 'jackdaw shapes'... craning their necks
as I do to watch the first of the early morning flypasts of starlings
lifting from their reedy roost on the dune lake... off in the same
direction everyday to feed and forage... thousands of them all following
who is following who.... none know who took the lead so they all follow
anyway.... they will splinter into smaller feeding groups of maybe 10's
or 100's.... time for the Jacks to take flight... themselves watched
eyeingly by the Rooks who populate the trees on high much more relaxed
about the whole thing.... frost litters the ground underfoot on the way
to the shop when I come across a flock of escaped and decidedly
adventurous sheep loose on the road.... I helped white van driver herd
them into a field.. neither of us knew where they come from.... sun
rises... pot of tea brewing... words to be written.
