of all the new words to enter the language, and I am open to language
morphing and changing as that whats keeps it rich and vital..... but
sometimes there are some words that just shouldn't be... that simply
don't work for one reason or another.. mainly because they just sound
stupid.... and it is "incentivize".... pet hate at the moment for
certain.... changing a perfect good noun into a verb, I mean.... it can
work doing that but in this case... no.... I even feel insincere saying
it.. I may as well just change the word "verb" into "verbize".... it
would be just as clumsy, awkward, and in many ways lazy.... I suppose my
difficulty with this word might be in part due to where it comes
from... the world of business, which is becoming more and more renowned
at being lazy and turning speech into some shorthanded metalanguage to
make simple mundane things seem more interesting that what they actually
are.... it's even permeated the world of politics now.... it's a word
where if you can't think of anything relevant or useful to say then use
'incentivize' and everything will be alright.... and I can't believe I
have spent a whole blog on this word!.... if I am not careful I will run
out of blog space and then.....................................
